We had some fantastic entries into our #wegetoutmore photo competition this Spring and loved seeing the great photos of families enjoying being outdoors.  To see some of the other entries have a look at the albums on our Facebook page.  We could only pick one winner though so chose this amazing photo as it seems to sum  up the awe and wonder of being in nature.

Jo Homer took this photo of her son Callum on a family walk above Patterdale in the Lakes.  Many parents will be familiar with the powers of persuasion needed to coax some children out on a relatively short walk, so we were very impressed that the whole family is managing such high level climbs.  Jo told me, “We’re still often surprised at just how far he will walk. He seems to like having the three of us as a family together all day with no interruptions or distractions. If he starts flagging up hills we can usually encourage him along by playing a game with him and there’ll always be something fun for him to do along the way – some big rocks to climb, long grass to run in, stepping stones to jump, mud to dig in.”

“We love walking days as we find it’s a great day out which we all enjoy and which doesn’t really cost anything. We’ve never enjoyed the more man-made, costly ‘family days out’ that you often see advertised to families. The outdoors is all the playground Callum needs.”
