Holiday Forest School is coming to Acomb Woods

27th June 2016

Get Out More holiday forest schools are coming to York! This new forest school for children aged 5-11 years starts in the summer holidays and will contain the usual fun mix of games, den-building and crafts, all rounded off with a campfire.

The forest school will be run in Acomb Wood and Local Nature Reserve, nestled amongst the houses, offering a quiet and leafy, yet accessible woodland location in York. The sessions have the approval of Make It York and will also provide support for the Friends of Acomb Wood, as part of Get Out More’s commitment is to invest its profits into the communities in which the social enterprise works.

Get Out More Managing Director Annie Berrington says: “We’re really pleased to be bringing our popular holiday forest schools to York.  Our current programmes in Ilkley, Bingley and Saltaire have been providing exciting outdoor adventures for hundreds of children in West Yorkshire over the last 5 years so we’re excited about growing into North Yorkshire and giving more children the chance to get out more.”

There will be 2 summer holiday forest schools, one 3-day (15-17 August) and one 2-day (30-31 August), which will run from 10am-3pm each day. All sessions will be led by qualified forest school practitioners who are looking forward to starting off this new group and hoping they will prove as popular as our long-running holiday forest schools elsewhere.

York-based forest school practitioner Sophie Askew, a previous volunteer with Get Out More CIC, will help run the sessions says “I’m really excited about working with Get Out More, at a time where children need nature and nature needs children more than ever. Get Out More are a model social enterprise and true to the spirit and ethos of forest school. It is fantastic that young people of York will have this chance to take part in forest school sessions, which are great fun and a much needed opportunity for them to engage in nature.”

Tickets are £20 per day and are available from here http://www.getoutmorecic.co.uk/events/
